How We Fish

How We Fish is a city-wide mural project that has engaged stakeholders from the public and private sectors, workers, business leaders, and providers of workforce development services in a series of conversations about the value and meaning of work and the challenges this issue presents today.
The initiative’s name reflects a proverb as well as the depth and breadth of the project:
“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”
The hard working people of Philadelphia have inspired the artistic team’s creation of a work of community-based public art. The design is intended to bring attention to people’s concerns, struggles, dreams and aspirations, described at community meetings across the city. The mural was dedicated in fall of 2012 at the Archworks Building at 8th and Cherry streets.
