Impressions of the Delaware

Impressions of the Delaware by artist Beverly Fisher is installed at the Daniel Shissler Recreation Center in Philadelphia’s Kensington neighborhood. The goals of this project, part of Mural Arts Philadelphia Restored Spaces initiatives, was to enhance and support the greenway and the orientation of the neighborhood to the necessity of storm water management; to increase the awareness and education of water as a resource; and to emphasize the water passage to the river. The mural installed on the recreation center building contains color and water elements that use the architectural features of the building. The rear wall designs support environmental awareness. The project is part of a larger set of projects that includes the Shissler Greenway that include structures and elements that visually connect Shissler Rec Center to Palmer Park and that enhance and connect the “flow” of movement to the Delaware River as a community resource.

Mural Corps youth participated in the design and execution of the project.
