Island Landscape

Island Landscape by artist Ana Uribe was located in the Northern Liberties neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Uribe used her memories of Colombia, where she is from, to create a mural that reminds community residents of their homeland of Puerto Rico. Featuring three large sail boats and a foregrounded island with a little house, the mural transports the viewer to a coastal landscape. The crisp, clear blue water is the kind one imagines being able to see down into, the trees and vegetation lush green, reaching for the sun. The viewer is transported from a parking lot in Philadelphia to an island paradise.

The mural was restored in 2002 by Haitian artist Frito Bastien.

Location Note: Mural no longer on view at this location (painted out in 2017).
