J Hampton Moore YDM

Good Vibes is a pair of two interior murals painted by Northeast High School students at the J. Hampton Moore School in Philadelphia’s Summerdale neighborhood. Led by teaching artists Michael Konrad and Ailisha Goodwin-Dancy, the murals were created in response to student complaints about the space looks and how it did not make them feel happy and appreciated. A few fourth-grade students wrote a letter to the principal asking for a change. A collaborative process developed the idea of a “Good vibes” mural, one for each bathroom. The partnership with Mural Arts Philadelphia allowed students to work with an artist to help plan, design, and paint the murals towards the goals of positively influencing the school’s priorities of improving attendance, expanding engaging social-emotional learning opportunities, and improving community safety through activities that bring together students, families and the local community.

Location Note: These interior murals is located inside a school building and are therefore not available for public viewing.
