Love Speak For Me

Love Speak For Me was initiated by Shelah Adams, mother of Asia Adams, who was tragically murdered by her boyfriend. It is a memorial to Asia. After her death, sessions were conducted by the Asia Adams Save OUR Children Foundation to increase youth confidence, identify characteristics of unhealthy or dangerous relationships, provide information about protection services, and address the negative portrayal of women in our society. Workshops by local poets were held to allow teens to voice their impressions, fears and hopes through the written word. A poem by Sonia Sanchez is incorporated into the project.

The mural by Shira Walinsky combines Victorian and North African patterns to place the viewer in context with the neighborhood. Portraits of silhouetted girls reference the idea of female empowerment.
