Manayunk Textile

Manayunk Textile by artist Henry Morales, with assistance from Daniel Lipshutz, is located in the Manayunk neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The mural is a vibrant gateway to Manayunk’s Main Street Corridor. Drawing inspiration both from Manayunk’s history as a textile-manufacturing hub and from his own family heritage, Morales employs a traditional Guatemalan textile-design motif to pay homage to some of the neighborhood’s natural and architectural iconography in an abstracted, symbolic mural representative of the Manayunk area. Included in the “weave” of the design are references to mill wheels, the Manayunk Bridge, the Pretzel Park statue, the canal water and the local red-bellied turtles and peregrine falcons.

The mural was sponsored by Manayunk Special Services District, with cooperation from Manayunk Development Corporation and SEPTA. Special thanks to Galbraith & Paul for their support during the installation process.
