Multi-Cultural Women’s Mural

Multi-Cultural Women’s Mural by artists Christine Isak, Mai Sam, Joyce Divi, and Damary Burges, was located in the Hawthorne neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A large abstract mural featuring geometric designs, and silhouette of a profile head filled in with women at a church service, this mural represents the diversity of cultures present in the lives of women from this neighborhood. The textile patterns and geometric designs reference Africa, while the church scene has cultural resonance with the United States. Together the various parts of this mural weave an intricate tapestry of the different cultural aspects that live in the heads of many women in Philadelphia.

Location Note: Mural no longer on view at this location (painted out ca. 2008).
