Mural by Josette Urso (Cirque Du Soleil) at 1501 Washingon Avenue

This mural (title unknown), designed by artist Josette Urso and painted by Parris Stancell, was located in the Southwest Center City neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The mural features a giant abstract landscape. Under a large tent, every element of the design moves in sync – a chain of hands are joined, flowing across a swirling landscape; a star moves across the sky, its trail becoming the Milky Way; and the land merges with the sky. The more than 100-foot-long untitled piece focuses on a theme of “unity”.

The project was sponsored by The Philadelphia Lincoln Mercury Dealer Association with special thanks to Cirque du Soleil. Members of the cast of Cirque du Soleil helped paint the mural in conjunction with the Mural Arts Program’s partnership with the internationally renowned circus.

Location Note: Mural no longer on view at this location (painted out ca. 2007).
