Oneness of the Human Family / Unity in Diversity

Oneness of the Human Family / Unity in Diversity by artist Cathleen Hughes was painted on an exterior wall of M. Hall Stanton Elementary School in the North Philadelphia neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This mural pulls together individual squares of abstract shapes and patterns to form a quilt like design. Every seven rows of the pattern is painted a series of hands reaching out towards each other. The quilt like design and the hands form a direct reference to the title of the mural signifying the unity of diversity and within that diversity the plurality of a human-populated globe.

Location Note: Mural no longer on view at this location (M.H. Stanton Elementary School closed in 2013).
