Pathways

Artists Meg Saligman and Emilie Ledieu came together to design and produce a new mural for the renovated Fox Chase Cancer Center cafeteria. This example of innovation in mural making complements Fox Chase Cancer Center’s own advancements in research and clinical practice. The mural is not just painted but includes many sculptural elements, a fresh collage of objects that accompany the elegant glass mosaic work, and a startling collection of back lit multi-layered painted glass compositions. The vision of this mural entitled “Pathways” was to portray the three main branches of Fox Chase’s efforts: 1) Scientific Discovery, 2) Patient Care and Clinical Advancement, and 3) Outreach and Education. The artists conducted an extensive series of meetings with Fox Chase Cancer Center’s staff, researchers, clinicians, nurses, executives, as well as creative hands on activities with patients and the wider community. Objects were collected that were then included in the actual mural, combined with the particular mosaic work that makes up much of the composition. These objects have very specific meaning to people and are connected in one way or another to the person’s journey at Fox Chase or personal experience with care. Also included in the mural are the painted eyes of different important people in the Fox chase community, past and present.

Location Note: This mural is inside the Fox Chase Cancer Center cafeteria, and therefore may not accessible for public viewing.
