Paz Para Vieques

Paz Para Vieques by artists Joe Brenman and Danny Polanco (aka DanOne) was located in the Norris Square neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This mural depicts 20th-century Puerto Rican hero, Pedro Albizu Campos. Though Albizu Campos came from a relatively wealthy family, he was a great advocate for the underprivelaged – taking special interest in wage laborers and women. He was one of the first public figures to promote both Puerto Rican national pride and Afro-Puerto Rican heritage. Though he has been criticized as a radical, he was known for doing what was right – not what was popular.

Location Note: Mural no longer on view at this location (lost to demolition ca. 2012).
