Philly From A to Z

Philly from A to Z by artist Ben Eine was a temporary citywide project installed on storefront rolling shutters throughout Philadelphia. In summer 2015, the ABCs began popping up when British street artist Ben Eine came to town. In partnership with Mural Arts Philadelphia’s Southeast by Southeast storefront in South Philadelphia, Eine and his assistant Ryan Robles spray-painted stylized letters on previously gray and empty storefront shutters, bringing fresh eye candy and buoyant color to the neighborhood.

Most murals are clustered near Mural Arts’ Southeast by Southeast storefront space at 8th Street & Snyder Avenue. Eine and Robles painted 37 shutters, including an entire alphabet. That means, in 2015, Philadelphia was the only city besides London to have a complete Ben Eine alphabet.

Many, but not all, of the pieces were visible only at night because they were painted on active shops.
Murals were located at these (approximate) locations:

-Broad Street and Allegheny Avenue
-1519 Frankford Avenue
-1529 & 1531 Front Street
-676 N Broad Street
-608 S 4th Street
-823 Washington Avenue
-7th Street, between Cantrell and Porter Streets
-1102 S 9th Street
-1000 Frankford Avenue (rear of building)

Location Note: This project took place in June 2015 and was intended as a temporary project to last 100 days. In some instances, murals are still visible painted on storefront rolling shutters.
