Pioneering Women A – Z

Pioneering Women A-Z pays homage to great Bryn Mawr and West Philadelphia women activists, writers, singers, abolitionists, suffragettes, and volunteers. Artist Shira Walinsky combined photo transfer and free-hand portraits presented in an “A-to-Z” format that accentuates the range of accomplishments of the women listed on the wall. Various fonts are used, alluding to the past and present. The color spectrum provides the background for text that describes the accomplishments of these many notable women. Students at Parkway West High School participated in the creation of the mural, along with students, faculty, and staff of the college during several paint days in the fall of 2010.

Bryn Mawr College commissioned this mural commemorating Bryn Mawr’s 125th anniversary.
