Positively 46th Street

Positively 46th Street Is located on an interior wall of the West Philadelphia Enterprise Center which is located in the West Powelton neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The mural is about American Bandstand, a music-performance and dance television show that aired in various forms from 1952 to 1989. The show began as a local program in Philadelphia on WFIL-TV (now WPVI) Channel 6, before going national in 1957. Originally hosted by Bob Horn and Called Bob Horn’s Bandstand, on July 9, 1956 the show got a new host who would soon become a household name in the form of a 26-year-old Dick Clark.

The show was ostensibly about not just music and dancing but also the couples some of whom are featured prominently in this mural moving counter clockwise there is: Jerry Blavat and Carmen Montecarlo, Arlene Sullivan and Kenny Rossi, Justine Carelli and Bob Clayton, Pat Molittieri, Carmen Jiminez, Bunny Gibson and Eddie Kelly, and Joyce Shafer and Norman Kerr. No music show was complete without its musicians some of whom are also showcased in the mural: Danny and the Juniors, Connie Francis, Charlie Gracie, Chubby Checker, and The Dovells.
