Potter-Thomas School

Potter-Thomas School by artist Ana Uribe is located on the exterior entrance to Potter-Thomas Elementary School’s playground in the Fairhill neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The mural transforms this facade facing the playground into a lush jungle landscape, with figures of children wandering among the forest floor. Wild animals drink from a river flowing at the ground level. Meanwhile, a monkey swings in the trees up above.

The mural was created as part of a five-year mural-making partnership between The School District of Philadelphia and the City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program that ran from 2004-2009.

Location Note: Mural is located at a rear entrance to the school that faces the play area. Lower areas of the mural were painted out and replaced with new imagery in 2009. Upper portions of the mural depicting the treetops are still visible as of 2024.
