Psyckoze at Springtime in Paris (Live Painting Event at the 2011 International Philadelphia Flower Show)
In celebration of this partnership and to reflect the Springtime in Paris Flower Show theme, Mural Arts Philadelphia invited internationally-renowned French street artist Alex Stolypine (also known as Psyckoze) to come participate in the 2011 Philadelphia International Flower Show. At the American Institute of Floral Designers exhibit, Psyckoze created an original piece in front of a live audience that is reflective of his artwork as an urban artist in the underground catacombs of Paris.
A sign installed at the installation explained:
“Deep below the ‘City of Light’, the underground networks of catacombs – a maze of tunnels spanning for 180 miles – hosts a flourishing subculture of artists that create murals, paintings, and graffiti scrawls along a cryptic canvas. Artist Alex Stolypine, known as Psyckoze, has been working in the catacombs of Paris for several years translating his work on the streets into contemporary murals that lie adjacent to centuries-old graffiti dating as far back as the French Revolution.”
Location Note: Mural no longer on view at this location (temporary project).
