Reaching Out (United Way Mural)

Reaching Out (United Way Mural) by artist Karl Yoder was located in the Walnut Hill neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The central image of this mural depicts a boy raising arms to the sky with a big pair of hands cupped beneath monochromatic figures. The figures on the sides depict different facets of the United Way. The intent was to depict the mission of the United Way’s specific programs such as child education, job training, and senior programs. It also depicts a general theme of helping others to improve the community.

A United Way Community Volunteer day was designed around this mural’s creation.

Location Note: Mural no longer on view at this location (removed in 2007 and replaced with B.R.I.D.G.E.: Bringing Race Into Dialogue for Greater Engagement).
