Southeast by Southeast Grates

These grates were painted as part of a Comcast Cares Day in 2014. Each year, Comcast partners with the Mural Arts Philadelphia to complete an art project and neighborhood cleanup at one of their sites throughout the City. Southeast by Southeast was selected as the site in 2014. In addition to trash cleanups at local parks, the team also painted these grates at 7th & Snyder from a design by Shira Walinsky, inspired by Southeast Asian textiles. The colors selected were those found commonly in Southeast Asian textiles and art, and the grates intend to serve as a reminder of the beauty of cultural practices.
