Street Lagoon

Street Lagoon was created by Stacy Levy in partnership with the Philadelphia Water Department. The project held community driven workshops featuring hands-on art and educative activities for the citizens of Queen Village neighborhood and environs, in preparation for “Soak It Up!” storm water investments initiatives. Levy utilized temporary art-making as innovative outreach to engage and prepare the community for PWD storm water work. Hands on workshops familiarized the community with storm water management issues through the joy of art-making and helped people understand the storm water management benefits of landscape elements such as trees, rain gardens and swales. Levy envisioned space by space, block by block, what an urban landscape optimized for storm water management might look like. The goal was to cultivate interest in community ownership and care for new landscapes by engaging community in innovative art practices.
