Sundial

Sundial by artist Matt Moore is located in the Callowhill neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was produced as part of Reading Between the Lines (RBTL), a project developed by Mural Arts Philadelphia to highlight some of the core design elements – color, line, value, pattern, and typography – that are inherent in graffiti art. Through classroom, and on-site interventions with professional artists, youth learn the theory and application of these design elements.

Classroom activities produced downloadable fonts, created kaleidoscopes, designed jean jackets and many more fun activities. Youth participants also learned the cultural context of the birth, and development of graffiti.

RBTL has yielded three murals by Claudia “MadC” Walde, Greg Lamarche and Matt W. Moore. Each piece focuses on design elements mentioned above. Additional programming included collaboration with artists Lady Pink, Mags, Claw Money, Dan 1, Samuel Meyerson and Karma.
