Sunshine Surrounds Us

The mural Sunshine Surrounds Us is based on the power of the sun to shine light and brighten up the world around us. The center wall uses a combination of paint, glass, and tile mosaic to reflect natural sunlight and shine with radiant colors. There are eight sections that each represent an aspect of Happy Hollow and the surrounding neighborhood.

The images in the mural range from a pear orchard that was on site before the rec center was built; to images of former world champion boxer Nate Miller, and former NBA player Jerome Allen, who both grew up in the neighborhood and have strong ties to the rec center.

The tiger is the mascot for the Happy Hollow sports teams. A new tiger was incorporated into the new design and sits on the wall behind a community garden at the recreation center.
