The Arts in Our Lives: West Philadelphia’s Cultural Gifts

The Arts in Our Lives: West Philadelphia’s Cultural Gifts by artist Sam Byrd is a series of interior murals at the Dimner Beeber Middle School in the Overbrook neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This mural, full of movement and celebration, is all about the positive presence of art in the lives of Dimner Beeber students. Ranging from youth to adults, the people painted on the wall are all taking parts in the arts. From singing and dancing to playing musical instruments as a jazz trio each wall was created to inspire by and with art.

The mural was created as part of a five-year mural-making partnership between The School District of Philadelphia and the City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program that ran from 2004-2009.
