The Blueprint

The Blueprint by artist Felix St. Fort weaves together the incredible legacies of each partner organization, as a foundation built upon by later African American STEAM innovators—inspiring figures from Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math fields.

Depicted in the mural are: (blueprint, left to right) historic Wissahickon Boys & Girls Club, William Coleman; (upper right) Margaret Roselle Hawkins and Sarah Strickland Scott, Founders of The Links, Inc.; (lower right) Charles Shirley and M. Francis Hunter, esteemed Wissahickon Boys & Girls Club Alumni. STEAM innovators (in color, left to right) include: Henry T. Sampson, Engineer and Technologist; Dr. Alexa Canady, Neurosurgeon; Misty Copeland, Ballerina; Mae C. Jemison, Astronaut and Doctor; and Percy Julian, Chemist and Civil Rights Activist.

The Wissahickon Boys & Girls Club was the first Boys & Girls Club to serve African American youth and the first to be led by an African American Director, William T. Coleman.
