The Breeze

The Breeze by artist Cesar Viveros is painted on an exterior wall of the Philadelphia Police 17th District station in the Point Breeze neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This mural is part of the City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program’s Adolescent Violence Reduction Partnership (AVRP) which embarked on a special initiative called Cops & Kids: Turning the Corner to give at-risk youth a unique opportunity to work side-by-side police officers from their neighborhoods on a large-scale community mural. The 17th police district, the Police District Advisory Council, AVRP, and community organizations created a series of murals on the exterior walls of the 17th police district building.
At a special mural dedication on Wednesday, June 13, 2007, police officers, youth participants, and community members were honored, and the completed mural was celebrated as a capstone to the Cops & Kids project in South Philadelphia. Officer Paris Williams, who suffered a fatal heart attack in the line of duty in 2005, was also honored.
