The Kardon Institute

Kardon Institute by artist Sam Donovan was painted on the Kardon Institute for Creative Arts Therapy, a school offering music, art, and dance/movement therapy services to individuals with diverse need located Morrell Park neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This mural began with a grant awarded from the Independence Foundation in the fall of 1999. The grant allowed a series of workshops for students of Kardon ages 8-11 to work towards the creation of several murals. These workshops helped the students to explore visual art through fun and interesting exercises. After several rounds of revisions this mural took place. A design that frames students of Kardon Institute in large flat colored squares. The portraits inside each square showing the students engaged in activities that take place in the school like dance and music class.

Location Note: Mural no longer on view at this location. Building sold in 2016, though mural remained until 2023 when it was removed due to construction.
