The Seeds We Grow, The Paths We Take
The Seeds We Grow, The Paths We Take is a mural created in collaboration with St. James School students and Brad Carney, a teaching artist and muralist. Carney did several workshops during the school year and painted the mural during a summer intensive with alumni and Philadelphia Youth Network students. The mural is located in a high-traffic stairwell and features four window panels, labeled “Patientia,” “Industria,” “Humilitas,” and “Benevolentia.” These represent the four “houses” that St. James students are sorted into during their academic careers. The views depicted in each window feature real locations on the St. James campus selected from student input. The foliage in each window box are species found on school grounds. The stepping stones between each window were added following students’ interest in connecting the four houses. Carney sourced key words that students felt embodied the values of each house, creating a visual and verbal bridge across each window. The school is located in North Philadelphia.
Location Note: This interior mural is located inside a school building and therefore not available for public viewing.
