The Shadows Are Mine

The Shadows Are Mine by artist Ernel Martinez was located on the exterior of South Philadelphia High School in the South Philadelphia neighborhood of Philadelphia Pennsylvania.

From Martinez’s artist statement:
“This mural was based off of [classicism]. I’ve wanted to pay homage to the arts, music, painting and the importance of education. I really wanted to change the façade of the school. South Philadelphia High School had a very non-inviting appearance, so it was important to me to address this in a dramatic fashion. I want the mural to reflect the changing demography of South Philly and reflect the student body. The Parthenon was the perfect example of what pursuit of education. It gave the students involved the opportunity to study history and the value of the arts.”
