The Tree

The Tree by artist Henry Bermudez is located adjacent to Hissey Playground in the Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The goal of the mural was to enliven the wall of the playground with an image that reflects hope and brings color and happiness to the community. The mural depicts a central vibrant tree with colorful foliage. This main tree sits amidst a wider forest of dense foliage, where abstracted birds fly through the densely patterned, colorful entwined branches and leaves. This fantastic scene provides a lovely, stylized backdrop for the adjacent public playing fields. This grouping of trees with branches entwined and providing safe shelter for birds acts as a metaphor for community.
