The Underground Railroad

The Underground Railroad by artist Sam Donovan was located in the Center City neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The main focus of the mural is Harriet Tubman (1820-1913), an abolitionist who helped bring enslaved peoples to freedom via the Underground Railroad. The Underground Rail road was a system of covert safe houses and abolitionists who helped guide and keep safe enslaved peoples as they escaped their appalling conditions of antebellum.
