The World on a Turtle

The World on a Turtle by artist Dennis Haugh is located on a local business, Sunrise Cleaners, in the Roxborough neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This mural features a large turtle walking up a grassy hill, with a very interesting shell pattern. Its shell is formed of the streets surrounding Ridge Avenue where the mural is located. Ridge Avenue is one of the most historic streets in Philadelphia with a history going back to the original city center and founding of the city. Open meetings were held at the Roxborough Development Corporation offices and community members were invited to provide input into artist selection as well as mural design. The project was supported by a number of local businesses, community organizations, and families. The World on a Turtle was Roxborough’s first outdoor mural.
