Tree Top Tulip

Tree Top Tulip by Paul Santoleri is the completion of a two-walled mural at the Roxborough Pocket Park. The work depicts the flower of the giant tulip tree towering over the village of Roxborough with details of the radio towers, a locally-known landmark, and neighborhood architecture. A small bird on the entry wall from the parking lot welcomes visitors to the park. As Santoleri explains: “The bird also acts as a reminder that we are living with and inside nature and that we are indeed inextricably a part of it.”
The mural includes brightly hued greens, reds and yellows complemented by bits of mirror salvaged from a defunct Philadelphia theater facade on Broad Street.
The mural credits installed at the park include the following statement: “The village of Roxborough that surrounds this small green park sits on a hillcrest high above the river and shines like a beacon nestled in green. Its radio towers can be seen throughout the region – the glowing red lights, like stars on poles, forever show us the way home.”
