Tribute to Children in the Arts

Tribute to Children in the Arts by artist David McShane was located in the Southwest City Center neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A celebration of children in the arts, this mural showcased children engaged in different artistic activities. The young boy with a crown represents acting and empowerment, symbols of royalty contributing to a positive self image. He is paired with a young girl playing a violin the vines behind her flowing like the notes of her musical performance. Children in the arts are not only represented by the mural, but they were active participants in its creation. McShane used a paint-by-number system to fill in the spaces of the mural with solid color to make it easier for the children helping him paint.

Location Note: Mural no longer on view at this location (retired in 2011 and replaced by Peace is a Haiku Song in 2012).
