Tribute to Thomas Eakins

Tribute to Thomas Eakins was painted by Peter Pagast and was located in the Fairmount neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It depicts the style of the great Philadelphia painter, Thomas Eakins (b. 1844, Philadelphia; d. 1916). It demonstrates the nature of Eakins’ work, most notably his study of rowers. Eakins lived on the 1700 block of Mt.Vernon Street. His home and his caretaker’s home are the current location of the Mural Arts Program. Eakins attended the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. This mural was dedicated in conjunction with MAP’s move to the Eakins house (now the Lincoln Financial Mural Arts Center) in 2001.

Location Note: Mural no longer on view at this location (covered by construction in 2009).
