Artist Statement:

Before we got plunged deep into Covid-19 social response I wanted to design a mural that honored spring: the blossoms and the time of coming out and opening up. Spring happened, and we are now all internalizing our response to this pandemic in different ways. On some days, I feel like it has heightened my own sense of paranoia, and other days it feels like a blessing to be able to slow down a bit. This mural depicts a figure of blossoming flowers being “protected?” by a mask, lungs exposed, as viral particles float around in the background.
