A project of the Kensington Wellness Initiative, Baltimore-based artists Jessie Underhalter and Katey Truhn created a striking new mural on the Heitzman Recreaction Center, the main community hub in Kensington. Featuring an abstract design with bold colors and patterns, this mural offers a total transformation at this rec center undergoing massive renovations as part of the Rebuild. Their design treats the building and site like the “jewel of the neighborhood.”

Jessie and Katey transform public spaces into vibrant, playful experiences using highly geometric, abstract language to engage with a place’s history, architecture, and culture. The Kensington Wellness Initiative (KWI) is Mural Arts Philadelphia’s commitment to sustained investment in a neighborhood that reflects our city’s diversity, challenges, and creativity.
