WATERCOLOUR (2018 Philadelphia Flower Show Installation)

WATERCOLOUR, the Mural Arts Philadelphia installation at the 2018 Philadelphia Flower Show, had a water-inspired mural to match the Wonders of Water theme. Artist Ryan Beck collaborated with floral design company Schaffer Designs to create a painting across four walls totaling 128 feet. Metal armatures held floral arrangements inspired by the bright, bold painting. The installation was described on a text panel at the show:

“Color and creativity are united in WATERCOLOUR: a collective blending of three art forms: painting, sculpture and flora. Water and pigment merge, bringing paint to life. Mural Arts Philadelphia’s Ryan Beck has created an abstract 1280-square-foot mural, teeming with the energy of unbound, colorful forms. Philadelphia-based multi-media artists Joseph Leroux and Ken Derengowski have sculpted flowering armatures emerging from the mural. Bill Schaffer and Kristen Kratt along with the Schaffer Designs’ Team of floral artists from across the United States complete this fluid, collaborative floral art installation in a living, floral explosion of color.”

Location Note: Mural and installation no longer on view at this location (temporary exhibit for the duration of the show).
