Waterloo Recreation Center Basketball Court

The Waterloo Recreation Center Basketball Court’s colorful ground murals were created by artist Carlos “Calo” Lopes Rosa. Located in the West Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, this was the first project in Philadelphia to feature surface basketball court murals. A special court paint was used that was formulated by SealMaster. The Make the World Better Foundation (MTWB) funded the project to reenvision it as an “oasis” for all neighborhood residents. The project is the result of several months of work by MTWB, a group founded by former Eagles player Connor Barwin, which works to revitalize public spaces in the city. Community input informed the design of the mural and other aspects of the project. Community members also participated in a community paint day.
