We Got the Jazz

We Got the Jazz, created by artist Alloyius Mcilwaine, is located in Philadelphia’s Mount Airy neighborhood. It was created as part of the Mount Airy Walls series. This mural celebrates its rich musical heritage, as well as paying homage to McIlwaine’s lineage from a family of musicians. It features the artist’s signature “kudoglyphs” – abstract symbols that convey messages of promise, hope, and affirmation – interwoven with uplifting words. Look closely and you’ll spot train tracks, cobblestones, and other elements from the local landscape subtly embedded in the design.
