Wellness at Play

Artist Ben Volta hosted weekly art workshops where participants could explore 8 dimensions of wellness: Physical, Environmental, Social, Spiritual, Intellectual, Financial, Occupational, and Emotional. Adults receiving services at 11th Street Family Health Center and youth from the local Spring Garden School participated in the workshops. The participants created designs representing their ideas about wellness, 70 of which were turned into signs placed along the fence at the Spring Garden School. Other designs were turned into repeated patterns for trolley pole wraps, placed along 11th Street between the school and the health center. Volta also designed a mural using participant designs for a hallway inside the 11th Street facility. The mural represents the path to wellness, moving from chaos to balance, and demonstrates the multitude of influences on an individual’s and a community’s wellness and vitality.
