Overview

Mural Arts Philadelphia seeks a Communications and Editorial Specialist to support our Communications team. The Specialist will write, edit, and coordinate public-facing content across print, digital, and event channels. The role will partner with program staff and external collaborators to gather accurate information, confirm details, secure approvals, and move content from draft to publication on deadline. The Specialist will uphold Mural Arts’ editorial standards by protecting community voice and consent, applying accessibility best practices, and keeping language clear, specific, and aligned with our brand. Reporting to the Communications Director, the Specialist will help deliver communications that meet a high bar for accuracy, craft, and public trust.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create external-facing print and digital content describing and promoting organizational initiatives, projects, and events
  • Edit and adapt copy for multiple channels, including but not limited to website, email, press materials, and catalogs
  • Work cross-functionally within the organization and with external partners to gather and organize information, assets, and timelines
  • Create and maintain website content using WordPress, including project and event pages,blog, news, etc.
  • Build and manage event landing pages on Eventbrite
  • Monitor basic communications analytics and recommend improvements
  • Use and assist staff and partners to use approved brand guidelines and templates

Required Skills & Technical Proficiency

  • Excellent copywriting, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace
  • Experience with WordPress or similar CMS
  • Experience with email marketing platforms (e.g., MailChimp, Campaign Monitor)
  • Experience creating and managing Eventbrite pages
  • Working knowledge of design tools, including Canva and Adobe Photoshop; InDesign a plus
  • Experience working with brand guidelines and  templates

  • Sound judgment and discretion when navigating sensitive topics and relationships
  • Political awareness and strong instincts for context, risk, and tone
  • Cultural curiosity and respect for diverse perspectives

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, journalism, communications, or a related field or equivalent experience
At least 3 years of experience in communications, editorial work, marketing, or related roles; experience working in a nonprofit or mission-driven setting is a plus

Work Environment
Mural Arts Philadelphia operates in a fast-paced, creative, and mission-driven environment.  We offer a flexible, hybrid work schedule that provides opportunities for both remote and in-office work in Philadelphia.

Because this role is deeply embedded in Philadelphia communities and requires frequent on-site and in-person engagement, candidates must be based in the Philadelphia region or be willing to relocate within a reasonable timeframe. Relocation assistance is not available for this role.

Compensation and Benefits
Salary: $52,000 to $56,000
