Danny Simmons Mural Dedication

Mural Arts hosts the dedication of a new mural, The Seeker, by celebrated poet and visual artist Danny Simmons that represents the quest to bring thought provoking art to our communities. The mural is on the side of a home of a family rebounding from a series of tragic events, offering them hope and positivity. The mural weaves in words of encouragement from Simmons’ longtime collaborator Rev Run of the groundbreaking rap group Run DMC: “Art not only ignites the imagination of our children, art and artists can strengthen and transform our communities.” Three decades ago, Simmons came together with his youngest brother Russell and Joey (Rev. Run) to establish Rush Arts, with the mission to spark the creativity of young people and provide opportunities to emerging artists. This mural is an extension of that mission.
