Harriet’s Bookshop X Mural Arts: In Indigo We Bloom

Jeannine A. Cook of Harriett’s Bookshop and former Black Artist Fellow Yannick Lowery of Severe Paper unite their practices to craft an immersive installation that marries memory, material, and meaning. Drawing on their shared Gullah Geechee heritage, the duo will debut a custom-designed cyanotype wallpaper and complementary furniture upholstery fabric that transforms interior space into a sanctuary of lineage and collective story.

Visitors will step into a co-curated space that pairs visual art with a literary collection curated by the artists—books that speak to liberation, lineage, land, and the love that holds it all together.

At the heart of this project are Yannick’s intricate collages—now reimagined as a visual language for print—patterned with echoes of ancestors and the quiet strength of survival. In rich shades of indigo, the work pays homage to a plant both sacred and revolutionary.
