Under One Sun Mural Dedication

Under One Sun by artist Carolina Gomez features an array of vibrant elements celebrating natural beauty and the cultural diversity of the local community. At its heart, the sun symbolizes the mural’s location on Rising Sun Avenue, while the turtle, a sacred Lenni Lenape symbol of creation, honors the area’s Indigenous history. These elements combine to tell a powerful story of interconnectedness, community, and shared history. The design is the result of extensive community conversation and survey responses and is a reflection of neighbors’ desire for a mural that communicates a message of unity in diversity. In the fall of 2024, we hosted a community paint day for local students, who learned on-site about the mural-making process and tried their hand at painting on mural cloth.
