Visualizing Water: Printmaking Workshop at The Water Shed

Join The Water Shed Resident Artists Nancy Agati and Rebecca Schultz on October 4th to make artwork capturing the movement of water!

Drop into the WaterShed to try suminagashi (“floating ink” in Japanese) and woodblock rubbings and printmaking. Make one print to keep and another to contribute to a mixed media installation that visualizes the unseen impact of urban flooding—plus, learn how you can get involved in the larger project! Registration recommended.

Nancy Agati and Rebecca Schultz are multidisciplinary artists whose respective art practices focus on reconnecting people with the natural world, with a particular interest in water-related issues. In 2021, Agati and Schultz collaborated to create Water Table, a site-specific, permanent installation illustrating the benefits of permeable materials at the Absecon Lighthouse in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The image of Water Table is based on a map of Atlantic City, referencing the impacts of sea-level rise on the region. Since that time, each artist has pursued further water and nature-based public works. Collectively, the artist’s works aim to engage communities and viewers with climate-related projects that offer mitigation strategies for sustainable land and water management.

About The Water Shed

The Water Shed empowers flood resilience in Germantown through community-driven art, resources, education, and science. Opened in November 2024 in partnership with the Philadelphia Water Department, Mural Arts Philadelphia and the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University, the Water Shed is a community-based hub offering flooding resources and free educational programs focused on empowering flood and community resilience.
