Light and Color at the Fillmore

Last week, we came together at the Fillmore in Fishtown for our annual Wall Ball gala. Sure, it’s a fun night, but to us at Mural Arts, it means so much more. Wall Ball is the night that we raise funds to keep our work going all year long, and it’s the night when we get to recognize the big picture. This year, we highlighted the great work of our Porch Light program and listened to Porch Light participant Al Tull speak about the way that art has changed his life. We honored our outgoing Board chair, David Pudlin of Hangley Aronchick Segal Pudlin & Schiller, our outgoing COO Joan Reilly, and artist Michelle Angela Ortiz.
We bid on a silent auction full of art from talented Philadelphia-area artists, curated by photographer Morgan Smith (Phobymo). We ate dishes representing the wide variety of immigrant and refugee communities that Porch Light works with, and we mingled with crocheted performers by Olek, a recent artist collaborator. We rededicated ourselves to building community through public art, to equity, fairness, and progress, and we couldn’t have done it without you.
Thank you for joining us at Wall Ball 2018—we can’t wait to see you again next year.
