Taste-Test Wall Ball
At Mural Arts Philadelphia, we’re gearing up for Wall Ball 2017, our annual bash to raise unrestricted funds and celebrate the hard work that we do all year long. Join the party on June 14 at The Fillmore, and bid on some truly fantastic artwork and one-of-a-kind Philly experiences.
Detroit-based artist Tyree Guyton, who’s also at work on a Monument Lab project with us, has generously donated a framed, matted painting from his Faces of God series. You’ll also be able to bid on a piece of silk graffiti from Philadelphia’s own Aubrie Costello, one of over 20 art auction items. Our online auction opens June 1, so you’ll have two weeks to track your bids and make sure you take home your favorite pieces.
If you’ve ever wondered what it feels like to throw the first pitch at a Phillies game, this is your chance to find out. That experience will be on the auction table, as well as a private, after-hours picnic at the One Liberty Observation Deck. See Philadelphia from the dugout to the horizon, and know that your funds will support art education and public art across the city.
At this year’s Wall Ball, we’ll honor artist Rashid Johnson as the recipient of the fourth Tony Goldman Visionary Artist Award. Born and educated in Chicago, Johnson now lives and works in New York City, and has held solo exhibitions across the world. He started out in conceptual photography, but his practice has expanded to include a variety of mediums, working with materials as unusual as shea butter, books, records, and incense. His work evokes, complicates, and asks questions about African American history, racial identity, and mysticism.
