The Top 9 Mural Arts Moments in July

Best of the Best

Every month at Mural Arts is chock-full of high points, from intriguing events to mural dedications to giant public paint days. Scroll down to check out our top moments in July!

Spin that dial and see what story unfolds. We started the month by dedicating Candy Chang’s philosophical input to public mental health, The Atlas of Tomorrow.

It’s a bird… It’s a plane… It’s Mural Arts’ photographer, Steve Weinik, taking super snaps of 14 Movements: A Symphony of Color and Words from the top of City Hall.

The mile-high July photographs continue with these stunning shots of The Oval and Brad Carney’s dance-worthy Rhythm & Hues.

Delegates and students galore helped color in the lines of the new 76ers mural, which was designed by Ernel Martinez and inspired by Philadelphia student Brandon Dougherty.

The Democratic National Convention brought out lots of fun art around the city. 57 donkeys danced about, Philadelphians had a chance to deliver their truth at the Truth Booth, and a special Keith Haring banner marked the Truth to Power exhibition.

Berny Brownstein’s verdant mural Wild Tuscan Lilies blossomed across Sansom Street at a late July mural dedication.

The Navy Yard got a pretty spruce as students in Mural Arts’ Art Education program wrapped a shipping container with their colorful designs.

The second annual In/Out Symposium took a deep dive into ethics and intention with a day of lectures and a day of field observation.

It’s a celebration! On the Fourth of July, before we went off to our barbeques and fireworks, we gathered together to remember Bishop Richard Allen and the founding of the A.M.E. Church at the dedication of a commemorative mural.
