Taller Puertorriqueño

Taller Puertorriqueño by artist Parris Stancell was located in the Fairhill neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Sponsored by Taller Puertoriqueño, the mural, like the organization, is about preserving the cultural heritage of the Puerto Rican community in Philadelphia. One of the oldest murals in the city, the imagery recalls the brilliant costumes and lively street scenes of Latin American carnivals. Elements of dance, regalia, nightlife and patriotism flood this mural with symbolism and root it deeply in the community. When it was created, three-dimensional plywood costumed figures in the adjacent garden echoed the ones in the mural.
The mural was restored in 2000 by artists Danny Polanco (aka DanOne) and Roldan West.
Location Note: Mural no longer on view at this location (reenvisioned at the same site in 2015).
