Donkeys Around Town

Donkeys Around Town was an interactive community art project hosted by the Democratic National Convention in partnership with Visit Philly, Mural Arts, Roe Fabricators, and ArtJawn.com. In July 2016, 57 fiberglass donkeys hand-painted by more than 2 dozen local artists were displayed at popular sites and attractions throughout Philadelphia. The donkeys represented the delegations from each of the 57 states and territories attending the DNC. Each delegation contributed 6 icons to include in their donkey’s design.
Steadfast, determined, and willful, the donkey has remained a well-known symbol of the Democratic Party since 1828. Donkeys Around Town included a social media campaign as well as a scavenger hunt, facilitated through a newly designed app, in order to engage residents, delegates, and visitors and make everyone feel like they were part of the action during convention week.
At the conclusion of the convention, the donkeys traveled to their permanent homes, in each of their respective home states and territories.
