The Vegetable Garden

The Vegetable Garden by artist Jane Dagenhardt Kutzer was located in the Fishtown neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This mural celebrates urban greening the idea that unused urban space can be planted to produce natural spaces to sit and play, as well as community garden plots. Created in conjunction with three other murals Music, Tropical Landscape, and Italian Landscape to serve as an experiment about turning vacant lots unto urban gardens The Vegetable Garden showcases some of the food stuffs that can be grown right in the city. Through the murals and a greening program sponsored by New Kensington CDC many lots all over the city of Philadelphia have become community gardens, providing not only food, but learning experiences.
